So first and foremost...

Song of the day: Cinema by Benny Benassi ft Gary Go

SECONDLY I do not believe that me and Ella left this blog for so long! Nonetheless, I promise that we will be back. Updating with pointless facts and news about absolutely nothing. But read on anyway!
Nonetheless, there has been loads that has happened since we last blogged, the most recent of which being the London riots. Close to home huh? I'm sure one of us will blog a bit later with further information on it. In the mean time, everyone keep safe!

Untitled #1

Song of the day - Brights Lights Bigger City by Cee Lo Green

Just a little note to say, hope you are all having a good day today :)
But also, and mainly, it's possible you might have to wait until Monday for the next proper post. Christine and I are working on an epic post about a few different designers from London Fashion Week, and there is a lot involved in that. We have also both just realised just how much work we have to do before Monday - it's a lottttttttttttt. We have tried to post every day so far, but it's possible we were a little too optimistic about the amount of time we have!
But you should all know that we are working our little socks off to get this next post out.

I also wanted to say, and I know Christine feels exactly the same, that we are so grateful to everyone who has even read a teeny bit of First and foremost so far. It means a lot to us that anyone cares at all what we are saying/thinking/doing. We promise to work so hard to make this interesting and fun to read, in return for you reading it occasionally! If there's anything you want to see on here, or anything you don't like as much, please tell us because we don't really know what we're doing, so any advice is appreciated! It's been a lot of fun writing this in like the past week and a bit, and it has convinced us that this is something we really care about doing. Both of us have tried in the past to write blogs (Christine with a little more success than me haha) but now that we have joined forces, it's even more fun!
So I guess what I'm trying to say is THANK YOU.
And because I thought this post was too boring and text-heavy, here's a picture Christine took on a school trip to Tirabad, Wales. I stole it from her facebook, I'm sure she won't mind though.

Let's Talk Disability!

So yesterday me and some friends went Proud Camden for the Channel4's Battlefront campaign winner Ella Prendergast and LTD fest. I think just about everyone in the school was invited along to support the cause, and even though we went not really knowing what the whole thing would be about, it ended up really surprising us.

Firstly, let me just say that I thought it was absolutely amazing, and I know that I and everyone I went with enjoyed it! There was an amazing turnout, the atmosphere was great and I met and had the chance to speak to a lot of new and lovely people. For those of you who don't know what it was let me explain...

Ella was a Battlefront campaigner to raise awareness for her cause, which was aiming to break down the barriers between able and disabled people, and her campaign was called Let's Talk Disability. You can find more information on the campaign here.
Basically, it was a one-day festival, hosted by T4's Jameela Jamil (!!!!) and there were lots of brilliant performers and amazing art work on display, not to mention the venue was gorgeous! There were lots of little chill out booths and rooms (even a karaoke room, but you know, I decided to spare everyone my far from publicly acceptable singing...) and lots of freebies and giveaways, and who doesn't like a good freebie right? ;D Some beautiful artwork was displayed on the walls, and unfortunately I didn't catch the names of the artists, but I do know that they were by disabled and autistic artists. How amazing is that? Also, there were two different stages, and variety of acts ranging from comedians to beatboxers and drummers football skills to dancers etc. - and all of it was disabled and non-disabled young talent. The acts were really the main show, and I honestly don't think I can even pick a favourite! But I must admit I loved the contemporary dancing, and the beatboxing blew my mind.

Anyway, Ella's main inspiration for the campaign was her older sister Nancy, and she directed a video, starring Nancy, to highlight the issue of bullying and name-calling. The video is short and sweet, and I think I very nearly teared up while watching it, so you guys need to take a look, you can find it below! But yeah, the point is clear, ableism isn't something taken seriously enough, and I think the whole campaign and event was a fantastic way to raise awareness and integrate both able and disable people. Don't stare at people you think are different, don't whisper and definitely don't call them names. Talk to them, make friends, treat them normally - that's something I learned from yesterday.

A study in yellow

Song of the day: I Can't Write Left-Handed by John Legend and The Roots

I recently purchased the world's brightest, most yellow top (H&M, £15, I will take a picture in the next few days). It resembles the Sun, or a daffodil. My mother suggested it for me, and I will be honest, I was pretty certain it would not look good on me. Or anyone, actually. But I tried it on, and I loved it! I wore it yesterday to a meal with my galpals, and received many a compliment, which is always nice.
I think everyone should own at least one yellow thing: seeing someone wearing bright yellow always makes me smile! And I'm a big fan of 'mustard' as well.
So, other 'radiant' yellow things I am coveting:

Yellow floral print skirt, River Island, £24.99

Bright Yellow nail paint, Barry M, £2.99

Yellow button circle skirt, River Island, £26.99

Yellow scallop button shirt, Topshop, £24

Yellow Alexa bag, Mulberry, £185.30 (in the sale)

Honey Cats Eye sunglasses, Topshop, £18

Yellow pleated short skirt, Topshop, £35

Yellow satchel, Cambridge Satchel Company, £84

Mouse twist heel shoes, Schuh, £65
Omg, aren't they so beautiful.
And finally, the Prada banana earrings, modelled by Miuccia Prada herself as she took her bow at the end of the Prada S/S '11 show. I don't know how much they are, but I would guess a lot. *sadface*

All star...

Song of the day - I'll Be Waiting by the eternally fabulous Adele

So first and foremost...
Did anyone happen to catch any glimpses of the NBA All-star celebrity basketball match the other day?
Urgh, it's instances such as those that make me wish I was one of them.
Well actually, I nearly always wish I was one of them.
So there I am, casually chirpsin' on Tumblr and I see pictures of Beyonce, Drake, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Keri Hilson, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, John Legend, Bruno Mars, Ciara - just to name a few - at the NBA All-star match! Anyone else bare jel?!
Actually, looking back on that list, can anyone spot the odd one out? ;D
Ah, poor JB, just a white boy from Canada. Not that makes me any less in love with him.
Anyways, I only made this post to identify and point out the fact that Beyonce's shoes were once again, GORGEOUS. I mean glittery Louboutins... What girl doesn't want!
Also that RiRi is rocking the long hair again, and once again making the entire female population of the earth envious of her pins.
Oh and that Ciara looked like a drag queen. Sorry Ciara, those shoes? Hell no.
Actually, can I just go back to the topic of Rihanna for a second? See Rihanna performed at the All-star match, and because of the fact that it's supposed to be a 'family event' and that she grabbed her crotch at one point and danced in her naturally Caribbean-like manner, it was said that her performance was so provocative and sexual that most critics described it as
disgusting. Seriously people? This is Rihanna. And it was her 23rd birthday. Let her live. Plus, she's from the islands - they can all move like that, and if I could I definately would. Maybe it's because I'm a RiRi fan but, in my opinion there's no greater way to get back at the haters than just pissing them off all together. Plus, it was not even that bad, at all. You can watch her performance here - Drake's alteration of the 'What's My Name' rap for Rihanna is totally cute!

Also, how cute does Justin Bieber look in a basketball uniform!
*swoon*
Actually, while I'm on the topic of him, does everyone know that he's cut his hair, like really short? The hair flip is gone, and the hair is being auctioned off for charity. Urgh, he's so giving. Anywho, that is all that I will say on the matter because otherwise I'll become crazy...

And in other news, did anyone catch this week's Glee episode?
I quite enjoyed it actually, Gweneth Paltrow was looking foine, and at almost forty as well!
I hope I look like that at 40.
Does anyone else reckon that if they were a single 30 something teacher they would totes go for Mr Schue?
Because I think I would!
Well, he is ab-ulous ;D

Guys and Girls (but mainly girls)...

IT'S LONDON FASHION WEEK.
I actually almost forgot.
You can catch some of London's more trendy and underground designers and their shows live from the Topshop website! (http://live.topshop.com/) but I bet fellow blogger Tavi Gevinson is already on them like a hot potato.
Me + Ella will report back at the end of the week with our favourite looks and designers so stay tuned!

So many boys keep on begging for my time...

Song of the day: Latika's Theme by A.R . Rahman (from the soundtrack for Slumdog Millionaire)
Song that will never ever be song of the day: All These Boys by Jasmine Villegas. I am loath to call it music.

So, y'all recently saw Christine's list of the fifteen best looking celebritaaaays. IN HER OPINION. Now, I know appearance isn't everything... but all these men are talented too! I mean, it just so happens that a lot of singers/actors seem to be extraordinarily handsome.
Me and Christine were originally going to write this list together. But it turns out, she has some crazy crush on Chris Brown. For starters, I think his voice is the most annoying thing ever, always have. And I don't think he is at all attractive! So yeah, that was a major obstacle. But also, and I know everyone says that we should put this incident behind us blahblahblah, I just cannot take him seriously as an artist after the whole Rihanna debacle. Tbh, it amazes me that other people can! And what amazes me more, is that being a nice person gets you nowhere. For example, look at Leona Lewis. Perfectly lovely and an amazing singer, but regarded as dull, and thus less successful than perhaps she should be. (I confess, her music is pretty much all the same, but whatevs.) Whereas Chris Brown has bounced back from a serious assualt conviction, and had a Top 10 single. I just don't get it. So yeah, that ended the notion of a joint list. No offence Christine, I don't mean to insult your taste in boys ;)
(Eva Wiseman sort of sums up what I think in a less embittered and enraged way: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/feb/20/chris-brown-rihanna-violence-volatile)

ANYWAY. This was supposed to be a light-hearted list of hot fellas. I will oblige. Interestingly, me and Christine have exactly the same top five, but in a different order.
Without further ado, I present 'My List Of Fifteen Men Who I Think Are Really Damn Good Looking':
  1. Zayn Malik (he is Number One because he is a little more in my age range, which makes him instantly so much more attractive)
  2. Jake Gyllenhaal (who clearly likes younger women, so you know, I have a shot)
  3. Chace Crawford
  4. Joseph Gordon-Levitt
  5. Justin Bieber
  6. Nick Grimshaw (last minute replacement for Zac Efron after I realised I just don't think he's that amazing anymore)
  7. Matt Lanter
  8. Shia LaBoeuf
  9. James Franco
  10. Channing Tatum
  11. Luke Pasqualino
  12. Tinie Tempah (fyi, his real name is Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu, Jr - I see why he changed it, Tinie Tempah just rolls off the tongue a little better, you know?)
  13. Chad Michael Murray
  14. Enrique Iglesias
  15. Lucien Laviscount (Jonah off of Waterloo Road)
(After the top five, the notion of ranking them flew out the window. Regard them as pretty much equal.)

And my lifetime acheivement award goes to David Beckham! Keeping the name of hotties alive for 36 years.

And because I have too much time, feast your eyes on each and every one of them...

You know you love us,
xoxo

And because what we love is not ourselves, but a spot of healthy competition, tweet us/facebook us/leave a comment saying whose list you preferred? And if you say Christine's, I will hunt you down. Just so you know.  Mwah!

It's raining men...

...Hallelujah!
And no, I didn't have to just Google how to spell hallelujah ;D *shifty eyes*
Song of the day - Hey Soul Sister by Train (so old but so good!)

Anyways, today's post is a new segment, which I have a feeling will be a favourite of mine - considering I already have a 'Wank Bank' on Facebook...
It's our list of the Top 30 sexiest men alive ;D Celebs ofc (no offence to you DGS boys, but yanoe, at the moment you're just not cutting it).

But you see the thing is...
Me and Ella don't always agree, and there were certain guys that I loved, that she just did not want on there. So we came to a compromise, and decided to list our top 15 each.
So here's mine, compliments of me, including pictures of my top 3 - enjoy! (:

Christine's Top 15 Sexiest Men (including a lifetime achievement award)...
1. Jake Gyllenhaal
2. Joseph Gordon-Levitt
3. Zayn Malik
4. Justin Bieber
5. Chace Crawford
6. Shia Labeouf
7. Ryan Reynolds
8. James Franco
9. Chris Brown
10. Ed Westwick
11. Luke Pasqualino
12. Tinie Tempah (God knows what his real name is...)
13. Bruno Mars
14. Usher Raymond
15. Paul Wesley

And the lifetime achievement award goes to... *drum roll*
WILL SMITH!
42 and still breaking hearts ;D

So congrats to all you boys who made the cut, and as for those who didn't... better luck next year!
Feast your eyes ladies...

Neat Freak Chic

Song of the day - Locked Inside by Janelle Monae

Firstly, happy Sunday! Normally I would be feeling extremely unhappy, but it's half term! YAY!

Today's post is the first of many such, hopefully.
STYLE CRUSH
Okay, now tell me if you know who I am talking about.
  • Bright, clashing colours
  • Pencil skirts, pussy-bow blouses and Mary-Janes
  • Cute-as-a-button brooches/necklaces/sweater clip things
  • Bambi eyes!
  • Amazing ginger hair
I am of course talking about Emma Pillsbury, the amazing germaphobic guidance counsellor from Glee! This woman inspires me. Her clothes are amazing! She has a way with bright colours, her vintage jewellery is always adorable and her hair is lush, sort of reminiscent of a 70s style bouffant affair, but like, modern. Seriously, I really don't think this woman gets enough screen time or enough recognition for her fashion-forward, and sort of retro fashion-backward, style. I feel like she would be one of those people who goes to Primark and H&M and stuff, and spots seemingly average items, combines them with quirky little accessories, and creates the masterpieces which appear like visions each Monday.
Now behold the wonders of which I speak:

And a special mention must go to the wonderful episode Mash-Up, in which two things were revealed about Emma. Firstly, her voice is very cute - she sang a delightful version of 'I Could Have Danced All Night' from My Fair Lady. Cute.com! And second, she has fantastic taste in wedding dresses (I elect to overlook the puffy, fluffy, icky catastrophe she first chose).

Come Monday, when you turn on your TV at 9pm, you will be drawn, just as I am, to the wonderful wardrobe of Miss Emma Pillsbury. I challenge to try not to look, now that you've read this.
Also, check out these two blogs: http://glitterbird.blogspot.com/2010/04/and-thats-what-you-missedon-glee.html AND http://seamstome.wordpress.com/2010/03/14/steal-emma-pillsburys-style/

Mhmm Honey B...

Song of the day - Born this way by Lady Gaga. I don't care if it's a wannabe Madonna single, she's fabulous.

...Well yes, most of us have probably heard it - but if you hadn't heard it, then I guess you heard it here first ;D Even though reports and rumours have not been confirmed, Beyonce has apparently bleached her skin!!

Does this shock anyone else but me?
I though Beyonce was a strong, independant black woman, and that she was honestly the type of role model that would encourage women to be happy with themselves no matter their race, tone or shape etc.
I honestly looked up to her so much, it was almost upsetting to hear about. It's not like I have anyone else to tell me I'm beautiful and to be myself do I... #forever alone, ha.

Anyways, some people are passing it off as just a trick of the light - what do you guys think?
Whatever the weather, those $1,021/£635(!!!!!) jade suede Daffodile heels by Christian Louboutin are possibly one of the most gorgeous pairs of shoes I have ever seen...

You know you love us,
xoxo

All the dresses.

Song of the day - Turning Tables by Adele (one of many stunning songs on her new album 21)

STOP PRESS: for some reason, the theme has cut out the fourth image on the pictures. Just click on them and you can see the full picture. And Chrissie, we gotta sort that out!

As you guys probably know, it's award season in the music, film and TV worlds. Whether you were lucky enough to snatch up a ticket, or you just watched the events from the comfort of your own home, you have to admit that the fashion this year was fierce, and there were a lot of lovely ladies in gorgeous gowns. And a lot of gorgeous guys too, but we'll get to that later ;D
Anyways, the Golden Globes are long gone, so let's skip straight on to the 53rd annual Grammy Awards - music's biggest night, so you would assume that the dresses would be mind-blowingly extravagant wouldn't you? Ah, I must say, I was a bit disappointed with this years fashion choice by some people. While there were some interesting fashion choices...(Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga I'm looking at you...) a lot of people thought inside the box and being honest their dresses weren't too stunning. In my opinion the Golden Globes were a lot more glamorous. However, some people did blow me away. I think Selena Gomez looked gorgeous in her J Mendel dress and Lorainne Schwartz jewellery, and Jennifer Hudson rightly working her new, beautiful body in a Versace dress, Neil Lane jewellery and always classic Louboutins. And did anyone hear her sing? It honestly brought tears to my eyes :') *flicks the tear*
And as for Jennifer Lopez...
Yeah, I love you and everything J-Lo, but erm... you're 41, not 14.
That Emolio Pucci dress just was not doing anything for you.
Love the Christian Louboutins though!
I did enjoy the Grammy's though, all in all - especially the performances, and especially Rihanna, Usher, Lady Gaga and Jayden Smith and Justin Bieber - but don't even get me started on how robbed Justin Bieber was of Best New Artist...
I'm sure Ella has a completely different opinion from me on all of this, but she can voice that later ;D

(Selena Gomez, Jennifer Hudson, Amber Perry, Rihanna, Sara Bareilles, Nicole Kidman, Natasha Bedingfield, Miranda Lambert, Keri Hilson, LeAnn Rimes, Kathy Griffin, Jenna Ushkowitz, Hayley Williams, Florence Welch, Esperanza Spalding, Ciara, Bar Rafaeli, Kim Kardashian, Lea Michele, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Hudson)

'I'm sure Ella has a completely different opinion from me on all of this, but she can voice that later ;D'

Indeed I do, and indeed I will. Well not completely different, although I really don't think Bieber was robbed. It would have been schweet if he'd have won something, but I just youtubed Esperanza Spalding, and let me just say, SHE ROCKS. Her voice is a teeny bit like Corinne Bailey Rae, although the music's kinda different. And her dress/hair was flyyyyyyy. Plus, is that not the coolest name ever?

I am really not down with this whole dress-split-up-the-thigh look - it is the least classy thing, ever.  Kim, Lea and Ciara, I'm looking at you guys; the dresses would all look so much better without that hideous rip! And I agree with Christine about Jenny from the block; I can practically see her ovaries! Although, if you got it, flaunt it ;D Not totes feeling Natasha Bedingfield's look either, I like the hair, and the dress is okay, but it's just not working for me! And there are no words for Hayley Williams' get-up. Someone please find something positive about it because I am really struggling.

J-Hud however looks fabuloso! She has lost a hell of a lot of weight though, and I did love her curves <3 But of course, she looks just as amazing now, in her beautiful dress. LOVE HER. Amber Perry also working it for the curvy girls, she looks gorgeous. How does Rihanna manage to have so much flesh on show and still look pretty damn classy? That is a serious skill! Selena Gomez looks pretty as always, and Florence Welch (sans Machine) looks lovely! Sara Bareilles and Miranda Lambert show that a simple, elegant dress can look just as good, and although I'm not a huge fan, Keri Hilson works the short dress best in my opinion. So. Now you know what I think!

You know you love us,
xoxo

WAIT.

Can we hear it for the fellas? Firstly Justin Bieber. Now me+Christine may be a little biased, due to our serious cases of Bieber Fever. But the boy worked a white tux like no-one I've ever seen!
And secondly, Cee-Lo Green. I love this guy. Huge red, blue and yellow feathers. Oversized sunglasses. Jewelled headcap thing. And a metal sixteen-pack! I'm telling you, every guy should dress like this.

'Kids these days...'

Song of the day: King of Anything by Sara Bareilles

...are funny, fashionable and friendly. Right?! (I alliterated. Who says you don't learn anything at school?) Right.
I mean, all my friends are talented as hell and hilarious. And also, they're nice girls/boys - my mum said so.
Have you noticed that the teenagers are always the best dressed? They are the fashion pioneers, the ones who dare to wear. I don't mean the Uggs&Hollister masses, although I have nothing against them. No, I mean the ones who can be seen in Brick Lane or Portobello Road, wearing whatever they think looks good - and it does! Look good I mean. I turn now to my fabulous co-blogger for proof:

I mean, does the girl know how to dress or what?
These adults need to stop thinking they own fashion - its all about the under 18s! Need more proof? Look no further than Miss Tavi Gevinson. This girl gets sent designer clothes/shoes/bags just so she can take a few pictures for her blog. She gets invited to huuuuuge fashion shows, because everyone wants her there.  Now, I could never wear half the stuff she does, but the girl is an inspiration. She owns, and it's official.
When a fourteen year old girl is described as the 'frontline of fashion', you know the kids are taking over.
Case Study No. 2: Hailee Steinfeld, star of 'True Grit' and Academy Award nominee. FOURTEEN YEARS OLD. Boom. Now this girl is well dressed. You may have noticed her in magazine coverage of recent award ceremonies such as the Screen Actors Guild (our own take on the awards dresses is coming soon, btw!).

I could find a million billion trillion gazillion more examples for you, but I think I've made my point. Teenagers own. End of.

Ella :)

PS: Willow Smith. Need I say more? She's not even a teenager yet - the future is bright.

You know you love us,
